However, there are a few exceptions to this law, during which the work week may be considerably shorter. For instance, working hours for children between the ages of 14 and 18 are restricted. The maximum working hours for these children are 6 hours per day and a maximum of 36 hours per week. In this scenario, standard working hours are not allowed unless legally authorized.

While the law doesn’t directly state that night shift employees should be paid more, the reduced working hours and additional overtime compensation are advantageous.

The opt-out option is an effective way of mandating rest periods and breaks. This law stipulates that workers are entitled to a daily rest period of 12 hours between one workday and another. 

The law also states that employers are entitled to 35 consecutive rest hours. This rest period may extend from 1 p.m. on Saturday to midnight on Sunday. While working hours are prohibited on Sunday, local authorities may accept extensions to work on Saturday. 

The Argentine labor law doesn’t stipulate taking breaks during work hours. However, certain workers are entitled to breaks during regular working hours. To start with, female minors and workers younger than 18 years who work morning and afternoon shifts will enjoy a 2-hour unpaid break in the middle of each workday. However, this break may be reduced or ignored completely under certain circumstances. 

Also, nursing mothers who are breastfeeding newborns are entitled to breaks to nurse their children at different times during each workday. Although the frequency and duration of these breaks are determined by company policy and collective bargaining agreements.
