DevOps Engineer

At Mailprotector, the DevOps Engineer engages in the construction and maintenance of our highly automated AWS-based infrastructure. We are seeing rapid growth, which means there are many interesting scale, performance, and architectural projects to tackle. DevOps engineers work as part of our overall product team, following the same development workflow we use for all parts of the product. Our DevOps engineers are responsible for maintaining a high level of security, reliability, performance, and efficiency of our infrastructure. A typical day is spent monitoring systems, analyzing performance, troubleshooting issues, performing maintenance, and working to improve the infrastructure.

You might have a computer science degree. You might not. That’s not what we’re looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here.

If you’re not in the Greenville, SC area, no problem. Our product team is distributed across the country. Remote work is embraced at Mailprotector.

This might be a good fit if you:

  • Have a deep and abiding love of Linux. Or a respectful hatred for it. Either way, you’ll need to be able to grep like a pro.
  • Are a veteran with Amazon Web Services.
  • Design solutions with a “security-first” mentality.
  • Have architected large-scale highly available deployments in AWS from the ground up.
  • Embrace a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Have experience managing fleets of instances using a configuration management tool like Chef, Ansible, or Puppet, and a cloud orchestration tool like CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Are more interested in preventing issues than reacting to them.
  • Have experience with the setup and management of cloud infrastructure monitoring.
  • Enjoy the additional freedoms and responsibilities of small company culture.
  • Have a knowledge of database systems like MySQL, Aurora, Redis, and DynamoDB.
  • Regularly have ideas about making things better that you can persuasively communicate.
  • Have experience with email protocols and systems such as SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DMARC, DKIM, Microsoft Exchange, Postfix, and Dovecot.
  • Desire to improve, learn more, and make things better.

Who we are and what we do:

The Mailprotector team provides messaging security, encryption, and compliance to companies, non-profits, and governments around the world. We do this exclusively through a network of channel partners who rely on us for this mission critical application. We operate primarily from our headquarters in the historic Ivey’s building on Main Street in Greenville, SC and remote locations around the country.

Other things you should know:

  • There are multiple openings for this position and we will consider remote work for the right candidate.
  • Our interview process is more involved and thorough than you think it will be. This helps us make sure we find you the right seat on the bus.
  • We’re going to pay much more attention to your cover letter than your resume.
  • We’re first and foremost a team; but that doesn’t mean this is a place to blend in. We are looking for creative, intelligent, opinionated, hard-working teammates who want their efforts and input to matter.

If you think you might be a fit for this role and for our team then we’d love to talk. Please submit your resume and bespoke cover letter. We’ll be back in touch if we think there might be a reason to talk further.
